His practice, imbued with sharp social awareness and rich visual poetry, adeptly navigates themes of migration, identity, and resilience, presenting them with both humour and conviction. Relocating from his early years in Cuba to Spain and now New York, Mariño transforms the concept of displacement into a potent language of strength and belonging. Known for his vivid compositions, Mariño explores the tension between memory and reinvention.
Under the title "What Remains," ROOF-A proudly presents a solo exhibition featuring 20 new works. This exhibition marks a significant return to the Netherlands, as Mariño was previously a resident artist at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. Reflecting on his time there, Mariño remarked, "I was never more of an artist in my life than when I was in Holland."
